The 65-year-old will work alongside former Utes quarterback Brian Johnson, who was named Utah’s offensive coordinator in 2011, and is the youngest Football Bowl Subdivision coordinator in the nation. The Utes finished last season ranked 105th nationally in total offense and 73rd in scoring.
Erickson brings a wealth of coaching experience at both the professional and collegiate levels to the Utes program. He got his head coaching start at Idaho in 1982, and he helped the Miami Hurricanes win a pair of national championships between 1989 and 1994. Following a stint as head coach of the Seattle Seahawks, he returned to the college ranks to coach the Oregon State Beavers, and he led the program to a Fiesta Bowl in 2000. He most recently spent five seasons as the head coach of the Sun Devils, where he compiled a 31-31 record. He's won 179 games as a head coach at the collegiate level.
