Dan Hawkins is expected to become the new head coach of the Canadian Football League’s Montreal Alouettes, according to the Montreal Gazette. He replaces Marc Trestman, who was hired as head coach by the Chicago Bears.

The former Boise State and Colorado head coach has resurfaced, this time north of the border for the CFL’s Montreal Alouettes.

Hawkins was last seen coaching at Colorado from 2006-2010, a disastrous five-year run in which he went 19-39, strongly advocated intramural competition, and left the program in shambles. However, before coming to Boulder, he guided Boise State to a 53-11 record over five seasons. He has not been coaching since his dismissal.
Hawkins is walking into a pretty good situation in Montreal, as the Alouettes came within one game of the Grey Cup in 2012, but fell 27-20 to Toronto in the East Division Finals. The roster includes a few familiar faces for college football fans, most notably former South Carolina quarterback Stephen Garcia and West Virginia running back Noel Devine.
The Alouettes’ 2013 schedule has not been released yet, but the CFL season begins in June.
