Ken Clark, a star running back for the Nebraska Cornhuskers in the 1980s, died of a heart attack on Saturday, The Associated Press reports. Clark was 46 years old.

He finished his career at Nebraska with 3,037 rushing yards, which ranks fifth all-time, and he averaged more than 6.1 yards per carry. He put together back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in 1988 and 1989, including a career-best 1,497 yards as a junior. He was twice named to the All-Big Eight team and holds Nebraska’s single-game rushing record for a junior with 256 yards against Oklahoma State.

Steven M. Sipple of the Journal Star caught up with another former Nebraska running back, Tony Davis, to talk about Clark:

“Listen dude, he was the deal, make no mistake about it,” Davis told [Sipple] Sunday. “He may be the most underrated I-back in Nebraska history. He would produce and produce and produce. He was a producing machine. I mean, he’d always pick up third-and-4s -- stuff like that.”

Clark also spent three seasons in the NFL playing for the Indianapolis Colts. He finished his professional career with 510 yards rushing and 314 yards receiving.
