Mario Cristobal leaving Miami for Alabama, according to report

Mario Cristobal interviewed with Alabama for their offensive line coach job, and Nick Saban is apparently interested in bringing on the former FIU head coach, reportedly offering him the job.

Update: Jeremy Fowler of CBS Sports reports Cristobal will take the Alabama job.

Miami associate head coach Mario Cristobal has reportedly been offered the job of offensive line coach at Alabama, per 247 Sports.

Alabama’s interest in Cristobal became rumored Friday when he reportedly interviewed for the position, now there’s allegedly an offer on the table. The Crimson Tide had been interested in South Carolina’s Shawn Elliott, but he chose to stay with the Gamecocks.

Cristobal’s had a little bit of a whirlwind after being randomly fired by FIU just three years after winning a conference championship with the Panthers: he wasn’t unemployed for long, quickly landing the job as a high-ranking assistant with the Canes, a position where Cristobal is also hypothetically supposed to coach Miami’s tight ends. Cristobal played for the Hurricanes, winning two national championships and earning all-conference honors as an offensive tackle, and served as a coach at Miami as a graduate assistant.

The Alabama job doesn't have as nice a title as the one Cristobal currently has, but its hard to say it wouldn't be more prestigious. The Crimson Tide have obviously won three out of four national titles, and their work in the trenches is a large part of it: from the team that beat Notre Dame last month had three potential first round draft picks on the offensive line in Chance Warmack, D.J. Fluker, and Barrett Jones. Their previous offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland -- also a former Miami coach -- took a job with the Philadelphia Eagles earlier in February.
