Jeff Stoutland reportedly leaving Alabama for Eagles day after Signing Day

Jeff Stoutland is reportedly leaving Nick Saban and the Tide for Chip Kelly and the Eagles.

US PRESSWIRE

Alabama offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland is leaving Tuscaloosa to become the offensive line coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, according to footballscoop.com. Stoutland has a reputation for being a good recruiter, and the timing makes sense that he would leave right after National Signing Day.

SB Nation’s Eagles blog, Bleeding Green Nation, likes what they see at first sight.

There’s very little to not like about Stoutland. Obviously he got to coach blue chippers at Alabama and that undoubtedly was a big part of what made them so dominant, but he clearly had a major hand in developing those guys as well. If he can bring that kind of success to the NFL... look out.

In addition to his recruiting prowess, Stoutland has helped shape Alabama’s offensive line into one of the most consistent and dominant units in all of college football.

Alabama’s 2013 recruiting class is considered by many to be the top class in the nation, and those that don’t have the Crimson Tide at No. 1 have them in the top three.

The transition from coaching on Nick Saban’s staff to Chip Kelly’s staff will be a significant one, before even taking into account the change from leaping to the NFL level. Saban and Kelly run offenses that are almost polar opposites, and Saban recently went as far as to say that hurry-up spread offenses like Kelly’s may be bad for football.
