Eddie Lacy injury: Alabama RB will miss Pro Day due to lingering hamstring tightness

Eddie Lacy will reportedly miss his Pro Day with Alabama due to tightness in his hamstring. He also missed the NFL Scouting Combine due to the same injury.

USA TODAY Sports

Alabama running back and 2013 NFL Draft hopeful Eddie Lacy will not work out at the school's Pro Day, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter on Twitter. Schefter says that Lacy is experiencing "lingering tightness," with his hamstring injury.

Lacy suffered a small tear in some tissue around his hamstring while working out about a week prior to the NFL Scouting Combine in February. He had to bow out of the combine due to the injury, but said at the time that he hoped to take part in drills at the Pro Day.

Now that it’s confirmed that he won’t be doing that, it’s likely Lacy will have to rely on personal workouts with NFL teams to try and help his draft stock, provided he can get his hamstring healthy enough in time for draft day. It’s an unfortunate turn for Lacy, who had begun separating himself from other running backs in the draft in the leadup to the combine.

This is regarded as a weak class for running backs, but Lacy still should remain on top. Many draft experts consider Lacy the only running back worthy of being drafted in the first round come draft day. It will be interesting to see if that holds up, or even if he will still be the first running back taken at all. Guys like Montee Ball out of Wisconsin or Giovani Bernard out of North Carolina might threaten his positioning.
