Heisman Trophy voters warned not to reveal ballots

Heisman voters have been told not to reveal their ballots early, as some did last year.

The Heisman Trophy Trust is not happy that some voters revealed their ballots prior to the award ceremony last year. The organization sent those voters a letter demanding that they commit in writing to keeping their ballots hidden, and they have until April 8 to do so. They were deemed to have violated a “nondisclosure policy” in the past and a failure meet the April 8 deadline could result in the loss of voting privileges.

Last year, ballots made public and anonymous polling of Heisman voters made it clear well before the official announcement that Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel would win the award. Projecting the winner using these methods is nothing new, and it likely will be difficult to prevent leaks as a result, even with the Heisman Trophy Trust’s tougher stance on secrecy.
