There will be a name for the new college football playoff coming, and it won't have corporate sponsorship attached. Ivan Maisel of ESPN reports that there will be no official sponsor for the new college football playoff format that's set to begin in 2014. There will be a name and a logo, but none of the official BCS sponsors will have their name on the official four-team playoff.
Executive director Bill Hancock indicates that the new name of the tournament of four will not be sponsored by anyone like Vizio, and that the conference hopes to follow in the footsteps of big events like the Super Bowl and the Masters and the Final Four and avoid commercializing the event's name.
Hancock indicates that the list of candidates will be short and to the point. Sponsorships of the semifinals will stay intact, although there figures to be some addendums at the start of every official game name (like perhaps "The Football Tournament Semifinal at the Discover Orange Bowl").
College football playoff name revealed soon, won’t have title sponsor
The new four-team playoff will have a name that will be bereft of a corporate sponsor.
