Not too many teams like to hold spring practices on Friday, but Temple, Idaho and Western Kentucky not only like to do so -- they like to hold their first practice of the spring on Friday.
College football spring practice 2013: Bobby Petrino back in action, Temple already has quarterback chatter
While most teams were taking a break on Friday, Temple, Idaho and Western Kentucky all had their first practice of the spring.

Lets take a quick look around the world of college football.
Temple
The Temple Owls hosted their first practice of the spring and, if Friday's news was any indication, it should be a rather interesting offseason of news from the campus. Quarterback Kevin Newsome was expected to challenge for the starting position, but instead finds himself now listed as the fifth-string quarterback on the depth chart, with two walk-ons listed ahead of him. Temple's new head coach Matt Rhule, the nation's eighth-youngest coach, approached the announcement with a clear-eyes, full-heart, can't-lose mentality.
Kevin Newsome listed as 5th string QB, still gets daily reps. "Where you start the spring is not where you finish it," Rhule

Idaho
For a team that many considered one of the worst in the FBS last year, the news coming out of the Idaho Vandals' camp is about what you would expect from a team that went 1-11 last year -- what they were wearing on their heads.
Here at Idaho spring football practice. Assistant coaches are vocal, speaking quickly, engaged, players going fast pace. This is impressive.

Also worth noting Idaho is still rocking black lids, but that can change over the summer

Western Kentucky
Head coach Bobby Petrino didn't take offense when only one member of the media showed up for his first spring training, considering that the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers played the Kansas Jayhawks in second round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday.
Petrino used to be the coach of the Arkansas Razorbacks until he was dismissed under less than ideal circumstances. He brings in his big-time SEC experience with a big-time coaching attitude, laying the pressure down early on his team, as Zach Greenwell of the Daily News reported.
“My philosophy has always been, ‘Let’s put a lot of pressure on them in practice and really get after the quarterbacks in practice.’ We want to make the games the easy part. We expect them to perform well in practice. It’s not OK to make a mistake, and we like to put a lot of pressure on the quarterbacks in practice, and then it’ll pay off on Saturday,” Petrino said.
He came away impressed with the effort, praising every unit of the offense and expressing eagerness for the year to continue.
“I’m impressed with our offense line and tight ends. That’s a really good group, our running backs is a good group, and it’s going to be fun to see how it all plays out at quarterback and wide receiver. We throw a lot of balls in practice. They get a lot of work, which I think is probably new to a lot of them. I was impressed with their effort, and everyone tried hard.”
The Hilltoppers have 15 scheduled workouts before a spring game on April 20.
