Johnny Manziel got in non-fight with non-coach

Johnny Manziel threw a few interceptions during a scrimmage Saturday and also had some words with an Aggies graduate assistant. What kind of words, we do not know.

Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel threw an interception or three during a scrimmage on Saturday, leading to an apparent altercation between himself and a graduate assistant. Manziel is terrible suddenly at football and he's really upset about this.

Following his last of three interceptions, on a short pass into the end zone as he ran into the right sidelines, an exuberant graduate assistant jumped up and down within what appeared to be inches of an irate Manziel. So Manziel shoved him. Players and coaches, who were all gathered along the sidelines, quickly separated the Giddy GA and Manziel before anything escalated.

According to one observer, Manziel simply gave a playful shove to the GA that was giving him a bit of verbal business following that interception. To be clear: Johnny Manziel did not hit or otherwise assault a coach. He threw an interception in the end zone and then there was that brief sort-of-incident with the graduate assistant. (Here is an artist’s rendering of the shove.)

The players did not address media members following the scrimmage, so Manziel did not clarify the degree to which his shove was playful, and more importantly, he wasn’t forced to address this non-incident at all, and we are all better off for that.
