Many have forgotten about the massive impact Hurricane Sandy had on residents of coastal New Jersey. Rutgers football wants you to know that it has not:
Rutgers’ 2013 spring game uniforms honor Hurricane Sandy victims
Rutgers will wear special uniforms in their spring game to show they still remember the victims of Hurricane Sandy, which caused 37 fatalities in New Jersey while causing an estimated $30 billion in damage.

Those are the jerseys the Scarlet Knights will wear in their spring game, with every player presumably honoring a different town. It shows that New Jersey’s only FBS college football team remembers what happened towards the end of 2012 on the other side of their state. Thirty-seven New Jersey residents died in Hurricane Sandy, with thousands left homeless and towns reduced to shambles.
It’s very nice. To be honest, I’m not sure I’d be opposed to Rutgers wearing those helmets with the state outline and “stRong” on the side during regular season games. It’s pretty, not overstated, gets the message across, and would confuse UConn’s head coach.
Rutgers comes off its first Big East title in 2012, in its first year under Kyle Flood. However, this upcoming season will be its last in the conference, as it prepares to transition to the Big Ten.
