College football playoffs: Dallas over Tampa likely for first title game

Dallas and Tampa are the finalists to host the first college football playoff title game, with Dallas heavy favorites to kick things off in 2015.

Dallas and Tampa were the only two cities to submit bids to host the first college football playoff title game, according to ESPN’s Brett McMurphy. The game is set to be played on Jan. 12, 2015, and Dallas is said to be a “virtual lock” to land the game.

It’s certainly not surprising that Dallas made a strong push to host the playoff title game. Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has made significant efforts to place major sporting events in the new Cowboys Stadium, including several marquee college football season openers. The stadium is also now the home to the Cotton Bowl.

The two semifinal games for the 2015 playoffs will be the Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl, which are among a rotation of six sites that will host the first two games of the playoff. The title game is not subject to a rotation, and will be bid on by cities, similar to the process the NFL uses to find sites for the Super Bowl.
