The three football schools left behind in the Big East's implosion -- Cincinnati, Connecticut and South Florida -- could have big paydays coming from the league, according to former Boston Globe sportswriter Mark Blaudschun. The league will eventually collect about $70 million in exit fees from its departing institutions, and it will receive around $30 million from the NCAA for its teams' participation in the NCAA men's basketball tournament.

The conference won’t distribute all of the roughly $100 million it will have on hand to those three schools, because some of the money will go to the departing Catholic 7 as well as the schools that are joining the league. Blaudschun estimates that Cincinnati, UConn and South Florida will receive between $18 million and $25 million apiece. Negotiations are ongoing, so the figures are not concrete at this point.
But one thing is for sure -- Cincinnati can afford to make nicer Christmas cards this holiday season.
