Jay Boulware was tight ends coach at Wisconsin for only two months, but left last week to take a job at Oklahoma. Badgers head coach Gary Andersen was not very happy about this, and commented that he hired the “wrong guy.”
Oklahoma coach responds to Gary Andersen’s “wrong guy” comments
Former Wisconsin assistant Jay Boulware left the program last week after only two months in Madison, prompting head coach Gary Andersen to say he hired the “wrong guy.” Boulware spoke to the media on Wednesday and responded to those comments.

Boulware spoke with the media in Norman on Wednesday, revealing why he left Wisconsin for Oklahoma.
Boulware told a story about his aunt being hit by a car in Oklahoma shortly after he took the Wisconsin job and his mother calling him in distress because she had no way to get from Texas to Oklahoma to check on her sister. Boulware said he did what he could to help his mother and said his aunt is doing better now but is paralyzed.
“It floored me,” he said of the accident. “So when you have opportunities to get back close to home and be near family, I think most men, when you’re the patriarch of your family, I think when you have opportunities to be around for your family, you have to choose family every time. I live by a creed: It’s my faith, family then football.”
Obviously, it’s far from ideal when a coach has to leave a job before he can even coach in a game, but it seems that Boulware made an understandable decision after being confronted with a terrible situation.
