North Carolina also started spring practice Wednesday. It's also basketball and baseball season in Chapel Hill so, despite the fact that they went 8-4 in Larry Fedora's first season and return a bunch of starters, nobody noticed. The Rice Owls also opened their spring practice schedule Wednesday.

The most revolutionary spring practice story from Wednesday is the revelation that Louisville will be selling $1 beers at their spring scrimmage, scheduled for April 13. Admission is free to the public, making Papa John’s Stadium the greatest college bar in America for one day. The spring game is billed as the Wendy’s Wonderful Kids Spring Game, because nothing says that kids are awesome than dollar draws.
The Constant Gardner. Presumptive Michigan quarterback Devin Gardner, who was scheduled to begin his final spring practice on March 16, will get one more year of eligibility after the NCAA granted a medical hardship waiver for Gardner's 2010 season. That makes Gardner, who became Michigan's starting quarterback midway through the 2012 campaign when Denard Robinson suffered an injury, a redshirt junior. Former Wolverines head coach Rich Rodriguez unsuccessfully petitioned for the waiver in 2010, but the power of Brady Hoke's pointing brought it home on appeal.

Do As I Say, Not as I Do. New Wisconsin head coach Gary Andersen made a very public display of his disgust with former tight ends coach Jay Boulware when Boulware left the Badgers after accepting the position in January. Andersen filled the place left by Boulware’s abrupt departure Tuesday by hiring Nevada running backs coach Jeff Genyk...who had just joined Nevada’s staff in January.
In other coaching news, Indiana hired Buffalo defensive coordinator William Inge as the team's new linebackers coach and co-coordinator. Inge replaces Mike Ekeler, who recently joined Lane Kiffin's staff at USC. Head coach Kevin Wilson had started spring practice without filling out the final spot in his staff, but the Hoosiers should now be set for 2013.
