There may be no mid-week spring games to speak of, but there’s still plenty of spring football news from Wednesday.
Spring college football 2013: Alabama, Colorado suffer spring injuries
Elsewhere, Cincinnati turns to Old Man Quarterback and Kevin Sumlin drops the beat.

Alabama
The defending national champions will be without the services of inside linebacker Trey DePriest for the remainder of spring practice, after the sophomore suffered a stress fracture in his foot. Via the Associated Press:
Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban says DePriest aggravated the injury during last weekend’s scrimmage. DePriest had a cast on his foot while riding an exercise bike during Wednesday’s practice.
Saban says DePriest could have finished the spring but they “just decided to go ahead and fix it before it got bad.”
DePriest started 12 games for the Crimson Tide last year, recording 59 tackles. Freshman Reggie Ragland, a five-star prospect out of high school, is expected to fill DePriest's position in his absence.
Cincinnati
The Bearcats finished up spring drills under new coach Tommy Tuberville on Wednesday. The veteran coach didn’t mince words when asked for his opinion of spring football. Again, via the Associated Press:
“Well, they’re all boring, they’re all about the same,” he said. “Kind of like watching paint dry.”
The stories of the spring in Cincinnati have all been under center. The Bearcats will continue with veteran Brendon Kay at quarterback. The senior signalcaller, who is exercising his sixth year of eligibility after sitting out two seasons due to injury, replaced Munchie Legaux in November and set a Belk Bowl record with four touchdown passes. Tuberville joked that Kay is "older than some of my coaches" before praising his experience and ability:
“You can’t put a price tag on quarterback experience. All the other guys, you can kind of teach them what to do. But to have a quarterback that’s been beat out and had to earn his spot back and has learned a new offense, just to see the intensity of a sixth-year quarterback and a guy that really wants to get it done, that’s been fun to watch.”
Cincinnati also added Notre Dame transfer Gunner Kiel, who was the nation's top-rated pocket quarterback prospect in 2012. Kiel, whose hometown is just 45 miles from the Cincinnati campus, will sit out the 2013 season.
Colorado
Quarterback Jordan Webb will miss the 2013 season after tearing the ACL in his right knee Tuesday. Webb, a fifth-year senior, transferred to Boulder from Kansas last year and threw for 1,434 yards, eight touchdowns and eight interceptions in his first season with the Buffs. By November, coach Jon Embree had benched Webb, but new coach Mike MacIntyre told reporters Wednesday that Webb was in contention for the starting job in 2013. Colorado officials said Webb will apply for a sixth year of eligibility and hopes to return in 2014.
Texas A&M
The Aggies broke out a DJ for their Friday scrimmage, raising some eyebrows and even more roofs. Head coach Kevin Sumlin explained the thinking behind the music, as reported by Chris Vannini at CoachingSearch.com:
“We’ve kicked it around for a couple years, actually,” he said. “We kicked it around at Houston. We were actually looking at a place on the scoreboard where a guy could get up there and shoot some lights on him. We’ve thought about it. We’ve got a relationship with DJ Double R. He actually makes a lot of music for us for Friday, when we go in the stadium and change it up for us during the year. It’s been tradition for us for two, three, four years.
“So we brought him in live. They really did a good job of coming up with the whole truck idea on the sideline. It kind of grew. First, we were just going to have a live DJ. Then we got the truck involved. Then somehow, there were lights inside. We got some tarp and all kinds of stuff going on. I didn’t know what it was going to look like by the time it happened. The staff did a good job.”
Sumlin declined to say whether the recruits were more impressed by the music or the automatic doors on the DJ truck:
