Iowa State Cyclones defensive end Willie Scott was arrested for possession of marijuana Wednesday night in Ames, according to Mike Malloy of the Ames Tribune:

The presumed starting defensive lineman was stopped for having his headlights off and found with a “green leafy substance.”

According to a police report, Scott was driving through the west side of campus at around 9:00 p.m. on April 3 and was stopped for not having his headlights on. The officer smelled marijuana from outside the car and said Scott “had a green leafy substance located on his lap consistent with the appearance of marijuana.”
A search of the car revealed a glass jar containing 0.1 grams of marijuana, and a field test indicated that Scott had THC in his system - the psychoactive element in marijuana - according to the report.
Scott was placed on indefinite suspension by head coach Paul Rhoads. A spokesman later clarified that the suspension would apply only to competition, and that Scott would be allowed to continue participating in spring practices. The Cyclones play their spring game on April 20.
Willie Scott started 13 games for the Cyclones in 2012, recording 37 tackles and one sack. Scott was especially productive late in the season, racking up a season-high eight tackles against Kansas in the Cyclones’ penultimate regular season game, then recording six tackles in Iowa State’s Liberty Bowl loss to Tulsa.
It has been a tumultuous week for the Iowa State athletic department, with a number of football and basketball assistant coaches implicated in a series of recruiting violations involving improper phone contact with recruits.
