2013 Boise State spring game TV schedule, roster battles and more

The Broncos have some pieces to replace, but the team should be in good shape to repeat their Mountain West title. Here’s what to look for from their spring game on Saturday.

Otto Kitsinger III

The Boise State Broncos will play their Blue and Orange Spring Game 7 p.m. ET Saturday. The game will not be televised, but will be surrounded by festivities

Unlike the spring of 2012, the Broncos know who their quarterback will be. Joe Southwick didn't set the college football world ablaze, but he proved to be a capable starter in his first season. Leading receiver Matt Miller is also back for Boise State, who still managed to finish 11-2 and win the Mountain West, despite it being a "down" season.

Offense

The Broncos bring back almost all of their skill players from 2012, but must replace three starters on the offensive line. Gone are tackle Brenel Myers and guards Michael Ames and Joe Kellogg. Rees Odhiambo figures to slot in at tackle to replace Myers, but will face competition from Jake Broyles, who has battled injuries throughout his career in Boise. Spencer Gerke and Marcus Henry look to be the favorites to land the starting guard jobs.

Defense

Defensively, the Broncos are losing a lot. The defensive line remains mostly intact, but both starting corners and the team's leading tackler, J.C. Percy, will be moving on.

Blake Renaud is expected to step in and take a leadership role in the linebacking corps, but Tyler Gray, Ben Weaver, and Andrew Pint will also be fighting for snaps.

In the secondary, Jamar Taylor and Jerrell Gavins are gone from a defense that finished fifth in pass defense in 2012. Ebenezer Makinde, Deon'tae Florence, and Corey Bell will tangle for the starting spots, but all three of them should see plenty of time on the field this fall.
