Jadeveon Clowney made a surprise appearance on offense -- and, like, kind of, sort of almost scored an illegal touchdown that somehow counted -- which is just about all you ned to know about a shootout of a scrimmage between South Carolina's backup quarterbacks.
2013 South Carolina spring game results: Jadeveon Clowney scores touchdown, Black beats Garnet
Steve Spurrier had fun at South Carolina’s spring game, so don’t get overly worried about the results of a game where the team’s starting quarterback didn’t play.

Clowney was the recipient of 2013’s version of the Steve Spurrier Player Comes Off The Sidelines Trick Illegal Play, catching a 54-yard touchdown pass. Except he tripped and fell before reaching the end zone, since he was wearing sneakers and shorts instead of pads and cleats. Everybody was pretty worried for about a half a second, considering Clowney was supposedly sitting out the game with a neck injury and it looked like he might have somehow aggravated it. But it wasn’t an issue, as he got up, and was given a touchdown for the play even though he really didn’t score one. Clowney was given the Big Play Players Award for the Outback Bowl at halftime, which, hahahahahahah, yeah that must have been really tough to decide.
Here’s video of Clowney’s “touchdown”:
South Carolina fans - there were 35,218 there Saturday - shouldn't be overly concerned about their defense's seemingly poor effort.. For starters, a lot of those points are literally meaningless - Spurrier let kickers try repeated field goal attempts after scores, leading to tons of extra points - and seven of the points came off of a fumble recovery by Kyle Fleetwood.
Black's victory was kind of surprising -- their quarterbacks were Brendan Nosovitch and Connor Mitch, both of whom should be third-stringers at best, while likely second-string quarterback Dylan Thompson was the main quarterback for the other side. (Connor Shaw is still out and is expected to start next year.) Nosovitch might have looked like the best quarterback, actually, hitting a really beautiful pass to Jerrell White early while Thompson's first series ended in a duck-like interception. Spurrier gave Nosovitch an award as the team's most improved quarterback, so maybe he'll contend for a backup spot.
