2013 Clemson spring game results: Cole Stoudt shines in Orange and White Game

The longtime backup to Tajh Boyd threw four long touchdowns in Clemson’s Saturday scrimmage.

Despite a stellar performance from backup quarterback Cole Stoudt, the White team was defeated 34-26 by the Orange team in Saturday's Clemson Spring Game. Stoudt, a junior-to-be competing for the backup role behind returning starter Tajh Boyd, threw for 304 yards and four touchdowns in one half.

All four touchdown throws from Stoudt were more than 40 yards. Two of those four scores were thrown to Sammy Watkins, as Clemson's top returning wideout caught seven passes for 156 yards. Stanton Seckinger caught a 75-yard bomb, and Adam Humphries added a 51-yard catch for a score.

Sophomore Martavis Bryant caught seven passes for 110 yards for the victorious Orange team. Tight end Jordan Leggett, a true freshman who enrolled early, caught seven passes for 97 yards and a score on a 50-yard pass from Donny McElveen.

Boyd did not play Saturday. Stoudt's top competitor for the backup role, freshman Chad Kelly, suffered a knee injury Saturday. Head coach Dabo Swinney later told reporters that Kelly likely tore his ACL, which would likely keep him out for the season.
