Spring college football 2013: Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Stanford updates

Is Everett Golson ready to take that next critical step for Notre Dame?

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

Notre Dame

Eric Murtaugh of One Foot Down had a recap of the weekend events, as the team practiced on both Friday and Saturday. Murtaugh noted from head coach Brian Kelly’s press conference quotes that Everett Golson has become more confident and emerged as a better leader. Additionally, Irish coaches have seen good things from Golson, although Kelly says Golson still has a lot of improvement in every aspect of the game.

Additionally, Kelly notes that offensive coordinator Chuck Martin is taking more command of the offense and has called all the plays so far this spring.

Wisconsin

Ian McCue of Bucky's 5th Quarter takes a look at the Badger linebacking corps. Chris Borland is the central linebacker returning from this corps and will probably anchor the inside and be a threat to pass rush from the inside spot. Brendan Kelly figures to be one of the outside linebackers available, while redshirt freshman Vince Biegel could be the other potential outside linebacker to fill in at this position.

Florida State

The Seminoles kept things quiet on their approach defensively at this year’s spring game, according to Dustin Tackett of Tomahawk Nation. Florida State defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt supposedly is trying to break in an aggressive defensive front that will rely on numerous blitzing angles, aiming to create turnovers. But there was nothing out of the ordinary during the spring game, although the defense recorded six sacks and three interceptions overall on the day.

Stanford

The Stanford spring game occurred this weekend, and Jack Blanchat of Rule of Tree was on the scene. Numerous wide receivers stepped up, including Michael Rector, Ty Montgomery, and Jordan Pratt. Davis Dudchock figures to be the next tight end in the Cardinal arsenal of weapons, while Lee Ward and Ryan Hewitt lead the way on the blocking side.

Arizona State

Who performed well for the Sun Devils at their spring game? House of Sparky notes the top playmakers from Saturday. Tight end Chris Coyle was the top overall performer with three touchdown catches. Wide receiver Rick Smith has performed quite well with the opportunities he’s been given, and running back Marcus Washington could be a weapon on the inside with his ability to push forward through contact.

Colorado

David Gerhardt of Ralphie Report breaks down the defensive tackle situation emerging out of spring camp. Senior Nate Bonsu will have to return from injuries, and after that it's a host of sophomores and freshmen. Tyler Henington is the most likely to contribute while Justin Solis and Josh Tupou should have their chances to crack the chart.
