Bob Bowlsby comes out against paying college football players

The Big 12 commissioner is not a fan.

Kevin Jairaj-US PRESSWIRE

The controversy concerning paying college football players continues to rage on, with Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby the latest voice to chime in. Bowlsby addressed the issues of stipends for college football players by coming out firmly against it. Bowlsby stated that it would be unfair for certain student-athletes to get paid for their services while others wouldn’t be able to enjoy the privilege.

Before taking over the job of leading the Big 12 in the summer of 2012, Bowlsby served as the athletic director of Stanford since 2006. Stanford is a school that is well-reputed for its all-around prowess in numerous sports, as the Cardinal have won innumerable Director's Cups that highlight excellence in every sport.

Bowlsby might have disregarded the crux of the argument regarding paying college football players. While swimmers and track stars undoubtedly put in a similar amount of effort as their basketball and football counterparts, spectators don’t invest equally in viewing our buying tickets for each sport. Expect the debate to rage along well into the summer.
