As has long been speculated, the city of Dallas will end up hosting the first title game of the newly minted College Football Playoff. Matt Hayes of Sporting News has the report, which claims the game will almost certainly be played on January 12, 2015 at Cowboys Stadium.
Tampa was considered the other contender for a national championship title game, as it was the only other city to submit a bid to host the title game. Many other cities were interested but dropped out along the way. While Tampa didn’t beat out Dallas, a BCS source indicated that their presentation was so good that Tampa should be in line to host a title game in the near future.
While semifinal games will be rotated among six regular sites for bowls (including the Rose, Sugar, Orange and three other bowls that have yet to be figured out, although they’ll probably be the Fiesta, Cotton and Chick-fil-A sites), the title game will always be sold to the highest bidding city. At least two cities have placed themselves in the early rotation.
