Nick Saban talks to kids, imparts life lessons

Nick Saban spoke to children today on Tuesday and didn’t order them all to do push-ups.

USA TODAY Sports

Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban spoke at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield, addressing their Steak and Steak fundraiser. He had important things to say to the kids, and not all of them involved withering criticism.

More notes, via AL.com:

Be your best: Saban discussed how important it was to do your very best and take pride in your performance. Basically, if you’re getting A’s when you’re not getting A-pluses, something is very much wrong with you. Nick Saban would have made a great tiger mom.

Staying in Alabama: An aspiring media journalist in elementary school, student Jaxon Lockett, asked Saban if he would ever consider leaving the Tide to coach other teams. Saban responded that he was probably done roaming the football landscape and would be quite content to finish his days in Tuscaloosa.

Saban’s past: Saban discussed how he once had a crush on the drum major at his high school when he was playing football in West Virginia. She ended up owning a service station.

Saban didn’t break character once. Never changed his expression, never smiled for the kids, never. It’s a shocker he didn’t start compiling 40 times or bark at them to get in proper nap position technique.
