Wes Lunt considering Tennessee, Louisville, 3 others

Lunt could go to the SEC after transferring from Oklahoma State, or he could get in line to be Teddy Bridgewater’s replacement at Louisville.

Matt Kartozian-US PRESSWIRE

Former four-star quarterback Wes Lunt has narrowed his list of potential schools down to five as he looks to move on from Oklahoma State, with four BCS squads in the mix. ESPN’s Joe Schad with the report:

Lunt threw six touchdowns against seven interceptions this past season in an injury-marred true freshman campaign. Illinois blog The Champaign Room has already pondered whether the Rochester, Illinois native could make a homecoming. Tennessee and Vanderbilt are rival SEC squads both looking to replace quarterbacks with Jordan Rodgers and Tyler Bray signing in the NFL as undrafted free agents, but perhaps Louisville is the most intriguing choice: for 2013, they’re set, with Teddy Bridgewater set to lay waste to whoever the Cardinals face. But Bridgewater is widely expected to declare for the NFL Draft after his junior season, leaving the Cardinals looking for a new quarterback in 2014 -- when Lunt will be eligible. Southern Miss seems like an odd choice - they went 0-12 last year - but Todd Monken, the new head coach for the Golden Eagles, was Lunt’s offensive coordinator this past year.

It’s noteworthy that Lunt’s list is completely different from those of other quarterback transfers in an offseason that’s been full of them. Tennessee was amongst the possibilities for Notre Dame transfer Gunner Kiel before he ended up at Cincinnati, but Clint Trickett didn’t look at any of the same schools before swapping from Florida State to West Virginia, and Penn State’s Steven Bench has none of the same names on his list.
