Tennessee football recruiting: Orlando Brown Jr. commits to the Vols

Tennessee landed a huge - no, seriously, he’s 6’8, 341 pounds - recruit in Georgia offensive tackle Orlando Brown Jr., son of former NFL tackle Orlando “Zeus” Brown.

SB Nation Recruiting

Orlando Brown Jr. has the pedigree and size to be an elite offensive tackle. Turning him into one will be the task of Butch Jones’ task at Tennessee, as the junior from Suwanee (Ga.) Peachtree High School has pledged to the Volunteers.

Brown is the son of the late Orlando “Zeus” Brown, who played 13 years in the NFL with the Browns and Ravens. Like his 6’7, 360-pound father, Brown is enormous, already 6’8 and 341 pounds - and he’s only 16. His obvious potential has drawn a list of offers almost big as Brown, with 33 schools offering, choosing the Vols over Arkansas, Oklahoma, Michigan, Ohio State, and South Carolina.

SB Nation’s Bud Elliott provided an in-depth scouting report of Jones, currently considered a three-star recruit and the No. 40 OT in the country per 247’s composite ranking:

Brown is plenty capable of moving opposing defenders in the run game. No player in his highlight film can match his size, and he often simply leans on them. He gets into the defender quickly on a few clips, but does not show great quickness overall. The real problem is that he bends at the waist entirely too much and does not roll his hips. He's also not all that adept at picking off defenders in space.

He’s the second lineman in Jones’ class, which already has 12 members with nearly nine months until signing day, continuing a trend of increased recruiting under Jones.
