The Georgia Bulldogs will be without starting safety Josh Harvey-Clemons for their season opener against the Clemson Tigers, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The Bulldogs will once again be starting the season with a player suspended, as Josh Harvey-Clemons will miss the Clemson game due to a marijuana incident.

Harvey-Clemons and tight end Ty Flournoy-Smith were involved in an incident in which campus police found marijuana paraphernalia and signs of marijuana use in their dorm room. The two will not face charges, but the incident was reported to the school. Flournoy-Smith is no longer with the football program, and will likely transfer.
SB Nation’s Georgia blog, Dawg Sports, is concerned about how Harvey-Clemons’ absence could affect the Georgia secondary against Clemson:
If Mark Richt follows through with the customary suspension for 10% of the season [Ed: He did.], Harvey-Clemons will be out for the Clemson game, a game during which his versatility would have come in really handy. In fact, I’m not exactly sure who we have who fits seamlessly into that role in his absence. That’s why they call what the 6’5, 220 pound Harvey-Clemons has a “unique combination of size and athleticism.” Because it’s unique you see.
That’s an advantage Clemson can exploit, and even though it’s not as high stakes as an SEC conference game, a loss by Georgia in the opener could potentially remove them from national title contention.
