2013 Heisman odds: Johnny Manziel still the favorite

The Texas A&M signal-caller is the favorite to repeat next year according to Bovada, which would mean we would probably have to start calling him “John Football.”

Handout

Defending Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel is currently the favorite to hoist the trophy next year, according to Bovada. Manziel opened as the favorite back in January, and he's still the leading candidate with 17/4 odds.

Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller is right behind him at 13/2. Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron is third at 9/1, and four players are tied at 12/1: Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray, USC wide receiver Marqise Lee, Alabama running back T.J. Yeldon, and Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater.

South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney currently stands at 14/1 to win the Heisman, which is better odds than Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota and Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd (16/1) and Baylor running back Lache Seastrunk (20/1). Nebraska quarterback Taylor Martinez is now at 18/1 to win, which seems oddly high to me.

If Manziel could indeed repeat as Heisman winner, it would be only the second time a player has won the trophy twice, joining Ohio State’s Archie Griffin. Considering that no other player has accomplished that, though, it would seem that Manziel may not be all that great a bet.
