Kansas DE Chris Martin arrested in home invasion, per report

Chris Martin was once a five-star recruit, but has yet to play a down of FBS football between Cal, Florida, and now Kansas. Charges of aggravated robbery won’t help him see the field.

Chris Martin’s troubled career has hit another rough patch, as the former five-star recruit and current Kansas player was arrested Wednesday in connection with a home invasion where he, a former Jayhawks player and a third man allegedly stole cash and marijuana at gunpoint.

Martin, a junior defensive end at his third FBS school, was booked for charges of aggravated robbery, conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery, and kidnapping. He was with Jeremiah Edwards, a once highly touted prospect whose football career was ended by heart conditions.

Martin had yet to play a down for the Jayhawks. His status with the team going forward is unclear, with the team only indicating that they were aware of the incident.

The 21-year-old has bumped around all over the college football map, with marijuana popping up at points along his trip. Considered the No. 4 strongside defensive end in the country, per 247’s composite, Martin first committed to Notre Dame. But that didn’t work out, so the Oakland native wound up at Cal. That didn’t work out -- he said the Bay Area caused “distractions -- so he transferred to Florida. There, he was cited for misdemeanor marijuana possession, and within a year transfered again. He spent two years at a junior college in San Francisco and chose to play for Kansas under Charlie Weis, who he’d once committed to at Notre Dame. He was projected to start, but this puts a bit of a wrinkle into that.
