Phillip Sims’ once promising career will need another team, as the Virginia and former-Alabama quarterback is no longer enrolled at Virginia and is not eligible to play.
Virginia, ex-Alabama QB Phillip Sims not with Cavaliers
Phillip Sims was once considered the No. 1 QB in the country, but he ended up as the No. 3 quarterback on Virgina’s roster. The former Alabama quarterback will head to a third school after grades led to his departure from the Cavaliers.

The news comes from David Teel of the Daily Press:
#UVa announces QB Phillip Sims no longer w/program.

Sims’ departure is related to grades, as the player became academically ineligible. He will try to play football for a third team, but it’s not clear what the market looks like for a player once considered among the top players in the country.
The junior was widely expected to be the team’s starter in 2013. He split snaps with Michael Rocco in 2012, appeared in every game and threw for 1,263 yards for a Hoos squad that went 4-8. Then Rocco decided to transfer to Richmond to play for his uncle. But in spring, Sims was the No. 3 quarterback on the depth chart, behind David Watford, who played sparingly and inconsistently in 2012, and highly touted recruit Greyson Lambert.
It’s clear he did not fit with the program, as evidenced by Mike London’s quotes:
#UVa coach Mike London: "Phillip Sims did not make the commitment he needed to succeed here." Harsh and true.

Sims was once an elite prospect, a four-star recruit ranked No. 1 in the nation among pro-style quarterbacks in 247’s composite. But at Alabama, he lost a competition to A.J. McCarron to be the team’s starter, only making scant appearances as the Tide won the 2011 national title. He opted to transfer to Virginia, which was exciting news to Streaking the Lawn.
But his career never panned out for the Cavaliers. As for Streaking the Lawn, they’re not thrilled anymore:
We're going to need A LOT MORE QUARTERBACKS NOW. Inquire within!
