Texas A&M president: Texas isn’t ‘relevant to us anymore’

Texas A&M and Texas will continue to hate each other for a long time, even if A&M’s president doesn’t think the issue is relevant anymore.

Thomas Campbell-US PRESSWIRE

Texas A&M president R. Bowen Loftin doesn’t think Texas is relevant to the Aggies anymore. Loftin was asked to give a one-liner about Texas when he was at the SEC meetings last week, and declined:

“I don’t have to make it anymore,” Loftin said of A&M’s former Big 12 rival, as he walked away. “It’s not relevant to us anymore, that’s the whole point. It’s not an important issue.”

Technically, he’s right. Texas A&M and Texas play in different conferences now and are no longer on each others’ schedules. That said, two schools with as long a rivalry as these two can’t just go from being blood rivals to completely disinterested parties.

Granted, in this instance, Loftin was asked about Texas and didn’t make the comment on his own, but this strikes me as the kind of thing where both sides will talk about how much the other side is irrelevant while continuing to bring them up. It’s kind of silly, but this is college football. It’s all kind of silly.
