Dana Holgorsen on SEC hurry-up offense fear: ‘Get over it’

Well how about that? A Red Bull-sippin’, devil-may-care offensive football coach thinks people need to get over their fear of the hurry-up.

Last week at SEC Media Days, several coaches were asked whether they think the new trend towards hurry-up offenses is bad for football. The same question came up at Big 12 Media Day on Tuesday, and you’ll never guess how West Virginia head coach Dana Holgorsen feels about the subject:

Holgorsen’s quick rise through the coaching ranks has come by virtue of his lightning quick air raid scheme, so it’s no surprise that he thinks there’s no problem with it.

There has been a lot of talk from SEC coaches as to whether hurry-up offenses were bad for football or not, with Bret Bielema, Nick Saban, and Will Muschamp being strongly of the opinion that they were bad. Hugh Freeze and Gus Malzahn, meanwhile, take a similar tack to that of Holgorsen. Until someone produces hard evidence that hurry-up offenses produce more injuries, this basically boils down to a matter of opinion.

In other fun news, West Virginia and Alabama open the 2014 season in Atlanta.
