Baylor rivals review VERY gold helmet

All reviews were positive, but Bears fans might most appreciate the thoughts of a TCU cheerleader, who said the new hat looks like “winning.” That sounds like a major endorsement from a state rival, but it could also be a Charlie Sheen quote, in which case, joke’s on you, Baylor. Sorry.

Holgo on hurry-up: ‘Get over it’

    USA TODAY Sports

Last week at SEC Media Days, several coaches were asked whether they think the new trend towards hurry-up offenses is bad for football. The same question came up at Big 12 Media Day on Tuesday, and you’ll never guess how West Virginia head coach Dana Holgorsen feels about the subject:

Holgorsen’s quick rise through the coaching ranks has come by virtue of his lightning quick air raid scheme, so it’s no surprise that he thinks there’s no problem with it.

Weis explains ‘pile of crap’ comment

    USA TODAY Sports

DALLAS - Whether graded empirically or statistically, Kansas football is inarguably a pile of crap at the moment. But it’s notable that, on the opening day of Big 12 Media Days, declaring it so would trump conference favorite Oklahoma State, the debut of Texas Tech babycoach Kliff Kingsbury, or commissioner Bob Bowlsby’s aggressive comments against the NCAA.

Pay your umbrage to Charlie Weis, who said this about the level of talent on his roster:

KSU player takes shot at Texas

    USA TODAY Sports

Conference media days tend to be tame affairs by design -- nobody is interested in revealing much about their teams, and anyhow fall camp hasn’t even started. We hear plenty about how everybody’s been working hard, that there are a lot of great players and coaches in this league and so forth.

I’m going to guess that providing bulletin board material is generally a frowned upon practice within coaching circles, but I for one appreciate Walker’s attempt to spice up July.

Clowney would’ve been ejected, says Pereira

    USA TODAY Sports

Among this year’s new college football rules, the most controversial is the one that requires officials to eject players for targeting an opponent’s head during a hit. Everyone agrees more must be done to protect players against brain injury, but few can agree on exactly what such a hit looks like in all cases.

At both SEC and ACC media days, conference officiating representatives have tried to explain the range of plays that would lead to ejection, citing a range of video evidence and answering questions. The hit referenced by ACC officiating coordinator Doug Rhoads is one you might’ve heard of:

Big 12 adds live in-stadium highlights

    Brett Deering

Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby announced Monday that live highlights of conference games will be shown in league stadiums beginning with the 2013 season. It’s an effort to provide more incentive for fans to buy tickets and attend games in person. Like the rest of college football, the Big 12 has seen its average attendance decline steadily in recent years.

The Big 12 has endured attendance declines in each of the last five years, though Bowlsby did offer a positive take on the situation:
