The two schools were set to meet in Tuscaloosa in 2019 and play a return trip in Atlanta a year later. But with the ACC and SEC considering nine-game conference schedules in the coming years, the Crimson Tide and Yellow Jackets are uncertain if they’ll have available slots for marquee non-conference matchups. Georgia Tech already has its annual rivalry game with Georgia, another SEC opponent.

In addition to the yearly game against the Bulldogs, the Yellow Jackets have a few non-conference games against BCS opponents in the near future. Tech is set to face Notre Dame in 2015, Vanderbilt in 2016 and Ole Miss in 2017 and ‘18.

Alabama, having made a regular habit of playing games against big-time non-conference opponents, will continue the trend. The Crimson Tide play Virginia Tech to open this season, West Virginia in 2014, Wisconsin in 2015 and Michigan State in 2016 and ‘17.
