Rutgers head coach Kyle Flood announced that the program is retiring Eric LeGrand’s No. 52 jersey this year. The ceremony will be held on Sept. 14 during the Scarlet Knights’ game vs. Eastern Michigan.

LeGrand was paralyzed after suffering a broken neck against Army in 2010, but his relentlessly positive attitude in the face of adversity has been inspiring to everyone who have heard his story. He was able to lead the Scarlet Knights on the field before their game against West Virginia in October 2011:
Despite being one of the oldest football programs in the country at 144 years old, LeGrand’s will be the first number retired at Rutgers. It’s tough to say that he is not a worthy choice.
