The biggest question for the TCU Horned Frogs entering the 2013 season has probably been the quarterback situation. Casey Pachall is back with the team after leaving school this past fall to enter rehab, but Trevone Boykin, the man who replaced him, is still there, as well.
If TCU’s QB competition is a tie, ‘matured’ Casey Pachall wins
Despite his personal ups and downs over the past year, Casey Pachall is in a great position to start for TCU entering the season.

Head coach Gary Patterson has not said who will start in Week 1, but said that if the two are tied, the nod will go to the older Pachall (also in that article, Pachall describes himself as “matured” in his first public comments since last year):
“It’s not going to be one of those where we split 50/50, one is going to be the starting quarterback,” Patterson said. “If it’s a tie the older guy is going to win [the starting role].”
Pachall threw for 10 touchdowns and only one interception while completing 66 percent of his passes in six games last season before his hiatus. Boykin, who is much more mobile, completed just over 57 percent of his passes and threw for 15 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. SB Nation’s Bill Connelly was bullish on Pachall in his TCU preview, calling him “big, mobile, accurate and exciting.”
If Pachall really has matured as much as he claims, it’s tough to imagine him not starting. The Horned Frogs could contend for the Big 12 title this year if he’s got his head on straight and can reclaim his old form. Barring significant improvement over last year, the same probably cannot be said for the team with Boykin at the helm.
