The quarterback battle at Oklahoma may be over after Kendal Thompson fractured his right foot on Thursday. Thompson, Blake Bell and Trevor Knight were all competing to take over for the departed Landry Jones, and though most thought Bell would end up with the starting job, head coach Bob Stoops said it's far from a foregone conclusion:
Oklahoma QB competition: Kendal Thompson injury changes the picture
The Sooners’ quarterback battle may have ended by default on Thursday.

“You’re kind of making assumptions if you think he’s the guy right now,” Stoops said. “We’ve got a number of guys in there in competition with him that are doing really well, Kendal Thompson and Trevor Knight to go along with Blake Bell. We’ve never been real excited about naming a guy too early. So they’re working hard as well.”
You may remember that Thompson was arrested back in May for public intoxication, which was more of a headache than a big deal.
Bell was used primarily as a short-yardage battering ram in 2012, a role he took to with great aplomb. He scored 11 touchdowns while averaging only 3.4 yards a carry, but he has only thrown 20 passes in games since he started suiting up for the Sooners. He has a strong arm, but it’s far from proven at the college level.
With Thompson sidelined for the time being, Bell’s remaining competition is Knight, a redshirt freshman with no experience. It’s tough to see anyone but “The Belldozer” starting for OU when the season starts on Aug. 31.
