Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel became a household name thanks to his incredible play in 2012, but he's received much more attention because of negative reaction to his opinions and photos posted on Twitter. With that in mind, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney has banned his players from using the social media service until the 2013 season ends.

The world of social media can be a dangerous place, so Clemson players are disappearing for a little while.

“We try to do a good job of educating our guys and correcting bad behavior when we get it,” Swinney told orangeandwhite.com. “But then once as we get into the season, we’ll put all that stuff on the shelf.”
Clemson isn’t the first football program to ban players from Twitter. Washington State head coach Mike Leach made the move last October, and the debate over whether players should be allowed to tweet their thoughts has gone on for some time. Some players may take exception to having their opinions stifled, but most don’t seem to mind. At least, they understand the reasoning.
As far as Clemson players are concerned, the ban doesn’t seem to be an issue:

The Tigers appear to be much more concerned with their results than with their Twitter ban. That is most definitely a good thing for Clemson.
