Dana Holgorsen and Slim Thug go way back

Like a boss.

Al Messerschmidt

Something that came out of West Virginia Mountaineers coach Dana Holgorsen's mouth is about to sound strange to you, but that's your problem for feeling strange toward anything Holgorsen could possibly say. This is out there, via Mike Casazza of the Charleston Daily Mail:

“I don’t know Slim Thug, but I’ve met Slim Thug,” Holgorsen said. “He’s always around.”

Slim Thug is the Houston rapper who really likes to get involved in the area's sporting affairs -- he recently made a (the?) pitch to get Dwight Howard to sign with the Rockets, and he also once penned, along with Bun B and Paul Wall, a fight song of sorts for the University of Houston football team. Casazza made the Houston connection with the transfer of former Cougars running back Charles Sims to Holgorsen's Mountaineers.

Holgorsen has family in Houston and spends time in the area, plus he was the Cougars’ offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2008-09. His path seemed fated to cross with Slim Thug’s at some point.

“He knows a bunch of pro people, NFL people, celebrity people,” said Holgorsen, who spends some of his free and family time in Houston. “If they go to Houston, they go to Slim.”

Air Raid head coaches clearly have a special affinity for hip-hop. Baylor’s Art Briles boasts well-documented rhyming skills. And then there’s Holgorsen, Briles and Mike Leach taking in a Mike Jones show back in the day:

There is absolutely nothing wrong with any of this.
