Brown, a true sophomore who stands 6'6 and weighs in at 234 pounds, left Monday's practice in a leg cast, per Fowler. A former four-star recruit, Brown isn't expected to be the Ducks' No. 1 tight end -- junior Colt Lyerla should have that job -- but Oregon is hoping he can make a solid contribution on offense this season. Now, it's unclear if that will be possible.
While losing Brown for a significant amount of time wouldn’t be ideal, tight end is one of Oregon’s deeper positions. Lyerla caught 25 passes for 392 yards and six touchdowns last season, making him the Ducks’ third-leading receiver. And if it stays true to Chip Kelly’s scheme, Mark Helfrich’s offense should only throw the ball on roughly 35 percent of its snaps.
Last season, Brown caught two passes for 42 yards and returned one kickoff for two yards.
