Penn State and Virginia Tech have agreed to a home and home series beginning in 2022, according to a release from Virginia Tech. The first game of the series will be played on Sept. 17, 2022, in Blacksburg, with the return leg being held in State College on Sept. 16, 2023.
Penn State, Virginia Tech agree to home and home series
It’s hard to believe, but the home and home series in 2022-2023 will be the first meeting between the two storied programs.

Despite being relatively close and having common rivals, Penn State and Virginia Tech have never met before in football. Over the next decade, the Nittany Lions will renew rivalries with Pitt and Syracuse, and are close to doing so with West Virginia as well. Virginia Tech may not be a rival through history, but geographically, they would fit right in.
Virginia Tech is also making a push for big names in its future non-conference schedule. In addition to Penn State, the Hokies are scheduled to renew their rivalry with West Virginia, and will also hold home and homes with Ohio State, Michigan and Wisconsin over the next 10 years. They open the 2013 season against Alabama in Atlanta.
