Alabama football: Robert Foster cleared, but 2 players gone

Foster, a former five-star prospect, wasn’t initially cleared because one of his high school classes was not accepted by the NCAA. The true freshman retook the class over the summer and is “here and ready to go,” according to Saban. Checking in at 6’2, 185 pounds and running a reported 4.49-second 40-yard dash, 247Sports ranked Foster as the top receiver in the Class of 2013.

Saban said Faciane is suspended for a violation of team rules, apparently due to behavioral issues. As the folks at Roll ‘Bama Roll point out, Faciane working his way back onto Saban’s good side won’t be easy.

Paige was another player who had issues with the NCAA Clearinghouse. Like Foster, he was forced to retake a high school course, and after completing it he was cleared in early July. Now, Paige has been medically disqualified.

“Darius Paige has medical issues that has caused our medical staff to think that it is not safe for him to play, so he has been medically disqualified,” Saban said at his post-practice press conference.

“He is here, and we are helping to support him. He will be on scholarship. he will get an education, but our medical staff is working with him right now to try to help improve his condition. I can’t comment any further on that.”

The move makes room for freshman offensive lineman Bradley Bozeman, who was originally set to grayshirt but was added to the roster earlier this week. While Saban says Alabama is supporting Paige, a couple of the defensive lineman’s recent tweets indicate he isn’t too happy about the situation.
