Trevor Knight reportedly to be Oklahoma’s new starting QB

In a surprise, Knight is said to have won the job over Blake Bell.

Matthew Emmons-US PRESSWIRE

With less than two weeks until the start of college football season, it appears that Oklahoma has reportedly found its starting quarterback. Trevor Knight will be tabbed as the starter over Blake Bell, according to Tuesday's multiple reports, which would come as a bit of an upset (and Oklahoma analysts remain skeptical regarding the news).

Bell, a junior checking in at an impressive 6’6 and 254 pounds, made a name for himself over the last two years as a short-yardage rusher. He carried 60 times for 201 yards and 11 touchdowns, earning the nickname “the Belldozer” in the process. In passing situations, he was 9-for-16 for 107 yards. During his freshman season in 2011, Bell gained 171 yards and 13 TDs on 44 rushes.

Knight is a 6’1, 202-pound redshirt freshman, and according to some who have followed the Sooners’ fall camp, he’s been the more consistent of the two competing for the quarterback job. If he is in fact named the starter, it will be a surprise to almost everyone who assumed the job was surely going to Bell.

Of course, head coach Bob Stoops has denied that any decision has been made.
