Bill Snyder statue unveiled at Kansas State football stadium

The Wildcats owe pretty much all of their football success to Snyder.

Update: The statue is now with us.

Kansas State is set to unveil a statue of head coach Bill Snyder outside its newly renovated football stadium, according to an Associated Press report. The eight-foot bronze likeness of the Wildcats’ greatest coach was installed Wednesday and will be dedicated Friday.

More on Kansas State: Bring on the Cats

Snyder is entering the fourth year of his second stint as KSU’s head coach, and he already has his name on the football stadium. He’s compiled a 170-85-1 record during his time in Manhattan and led the Wildcats to 14 bowl appearances, including three trips to the Fiesta Bowl. Kansas State has finished the season ranked in the coaches’ poll 12 times under Snyder.

Before the William Jewell alum took over in 1989, the ‘Cats didn’t have much of a football history. They had a 299 wins compared to 510 losses and 40 ties all time, hadn’t won a conference title since 1934 and put up a 0-26-1 in their previous 27 games. Snyder led KSU to a winning record in his third year on the job, and from 1993-2003, his teams won nine games or more 10 times. The Wildcats won Big 12 championships in 2003 and ‘12.

The renovation at Bill Snyder Family Stadium cost $75 million and will be ready for the Wildcats’ Week 1 game against North Dakota State Friday night.
