LSU vs. TCU 2013 injuries: Suspension questions still remain

The Tigers and Horned Frogs meet at Cowboys Stadium Saturday.

Jerome Miron-US PRESSWIRE

LSU and TCU will square off Saturday night at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, in a matchup of two top-25 teams. With the Tigers and Horned Frogs both possessing stout defenses, fans should be in for a physical slugfest. In a hard-nosed game, injury concerns will be key. Both sides have some issues going into the contest.

Head coaches Les Miles and Gary Patterson have been vague -- probably intentionally -- regarding possible suspensions for a couple of their standout players. LSU running back Jeremy Hill was involved in a bar fight last spring, violating probation, and after a judge ruled he could remain on probation without restrictions, Miles allowed the team to vote on whether or not Hill could remain on the team. The players said yes, so Hill is still a Tiger.

There has been talk of a suspension, but Miles said “it wouldn’t surprise” him if Hill traveled to Saturday’s game. So really, nothing is certain.

Patterson has been equally evasive on the status of defensive end Devonte Fields, who was suspended in May for a violation of team rules. However, the TCU head coach has said Fields will be in uniform for the game, and that the preseason second-team All-American has "already done everything that the university has asked him to do." But he hasn't said whether or not the suspension will be lifted.

As far as actual injuries are concerned, LSU and TCU have a few players out for the season. The Tigers will be missing starting offensive guard Josh Williford (concussion) and freshman wide receiver Avery Peterson (broken ankle). The Horned Frogs will be without offensive linemen Michael Thompson (knee) and Tayo Fabuluje (personal) and linebacker Joel Hasley (personal), who have all left the team. Hasley and Fabuluje were expected to start in 2013.
