Desmond Howard ‘seriously contemplating’ joining suit against NCAA

The former Heisman winner could be getting involved in the litigation over the use of player names and likenesses.

Former Michigan Wolverine and Heisman Trophy winner Desmond Howard is “seriously contemplating” joining the O’Bannon suit against the NCAA, according to Dan Wetzel of Yahoo! Sports. If Howard were to join the suit, which is contesting the NCAA’s use of player names and likenesses without providing compensation, he would easily become the most high-profile plaintiff involved with the suit.

Howard is already involved in a lawsuit of his own. He is being sued by the photographer who took the iconic picture from the 1991 Michigan-Ohio State game, the one of Howard striking the Heisman pose. Yes, Howard is being sued over use of a picture of himself, which wouldn’t be happening if the NCAA would allow players control over their own likenesses.

Six current FBS football players joined the O’Bannon suit as plaintiffs earlier in the summer. Howard is also still involved in college football as part of ESPN’s College GameDay crew.
