TCU is scoreless after one half against Texas Tech Thursday night. Quarterback Trevone Boykin, making his first start in place of the injured Casey Pachall, has struggled against a fairly pedestrian Red Raiders defense, completing 8/10 passing for just 67 yards and one interception.

While TCU hasn’t handed the ball to a running back since the second play of the second quarter, Boykin’s scrambling has been largely ineffective: 10 carries, 42 yards. On a 3rd and 5 early in the second quarter, Boykin scrambled, then opted to slide two yards short of the first down marker despite a clear opportunity to pick up the first down.

Baylor, which enters this week’s game against Louisiana-Monroe looking increasingly like a Big 12 frontrunner, is scheduled to face the Horned Frogs in Fort Worth on November 30. Pachall could be back under center for TCU by then. If not? Maybe Boykin can repeat the five-touchdown performance he had against Baylor last year.
