Sometimes, you complete the pass, and sometimes, man, the pass completes you.
VIDEO: Auburn’s Nick Marshall completes 36-yard pass to himself
Yes, you are reading that correctly.
That’s Auburn quarterback Nick Marshall, completing a pass to himself for a 36-yard gain. The Tigers were trailing by six at the time, and ended up making a field goal on the drive.
Marshall fakes a hand-off and runs to the left side, making it look like a simple read option play, with the quarterback electing to keep it and run. Just before he gets to the line of scrimmage, however, Marshall straightens up and tries to throw to a receiver on the left sideline. Taveze Calhoun deflects the ball, Marshall catches it in front of where he threw the ball, and manages to get a solid gain before being taken down.
With ten seconds left in the fourth, Marshall completed an 11-yard pass to C.J. Uzomah in the back of the end zone to take the 24-20 lead and win the game. The quarterback completed 23 of 34 pass attempts for 339 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. He also ranked fifth on the team in receiving yards with the 36-yard grab.
