VIDEO: Brady Hoke during the Akron-Michigan postgame was a very unhappy man

Michigan’s head coach was not happy after his team’s nearly-disastrous game against Akron. So unhappy he forgot who won the Super Bowl, at one point.

Michigan narrowly avoided an embarrassing upset at home Saturday, coming back to defeat the visiting Akron Zips 28-24 at Michigan Stadium.

The Wolverines turned the ball over four times and were outgained by more than 50 yards through the air on the day. Michigan entered the fourth quarter leading 21-10, but gave up two touchdowns (including one on an interception return), making it a 24-21 Akron lead. Fitz Toussaint scored a two-yard touchdown with just under three minutes left and the Wolverines took the 28-24 win.

After the game, Michigan head coach Brady Hoke gave a very loud speech to his players, detailing his unhappiness with their performance despite the win.

Turnover battle? We were embarrassing. Embarrassing. And that’s what kept them in the football game. Kept ‘em in the game! And then once you leave a team like that in the game, now I can promise you, they start feeling confident, and that’s exactly what happened.

Kicking game. We didn’t punt the ball well, we cut a guy loose twice on punt, and they probably should have blocked the kick. Probably shoulda. That was good enough to get the ball off. And then we don’t punt the ball well, because sometimes when you got a guy coming right down your butt to block a punt, you don’t punt the ball well.”

Hoke was so upset he forgot who won the Super Bowl while making remarks during his post-game presser.

“The upsets are always in the mind of the favorite, and anytime you don’t take care of the football, and I don’t care if we’re playing Saline High School or you know, I don’t know, the Super Bowl champs, whoever that was.”

The Wolverines fell four spots, to No. 15, in the latest AP Poll following the win.
