The college football schedule appears pretty thin this week, with only one game between ranked teams scheduled -- No. 23 Arizona State at No 5. Stanford. Next weekend is shaping up to be a bigger one, though, and it’s a meeting between No. 6 LSU and No. 9 Georgia that will serve as the headliner:

The No. 6-ranked Tigers will head to Athens two weeks from now, and it’ll be nationally televised.

As is always the case when two top-10 teams go head-to-head, there are massive implications for this one.
Having already dealt South Carolina a loss, Georgia is an early favorite in the SEC East, with Florida being their other serious challenger. Still, that game is also in Athens, and their schedule is more than manageable, as they’ll miss most of the other SEC West powers. This all sets the Bulldogs up nicely for a return to Atlanta and another date with the SEC Championship game -- if they can clear the couple of remaining hurdles in front of them. It will start with a victory over LSU, which is admittedly no small feat.
The Tigers still have games with four more ranked teams after this one, including Ole Miss, Alabama and Florida. Beating Georgia on the road would be a huge statement, especially ahead of their remaining schedule.
